Growing up in the communities that we did, we were lucky enough to be surrounded by these amazing organizations that inspired us on a day-to-day basis. We also recognized that not everyone was lucky enough to have places and mentors like these in their lives and after talking to our fellow peers, we realized that many hadn't even heard of the organizations that we held close to our hearts. We set out to change that.
Many of us are also extremely passionate about film, and all of us have prior experience with using the camera to tell our own stories. So, we decided that we wanted to use our talents to tell the stories of these special organizations instead - the stories were just as much ours as they were theirs. The underrepresentation of women in the film industry was also no secret to us and we decided to use the amazing opportunity given to us by Girls Build LA to not only raise awareness for the amazing places in our communities, but also to promote the fact that women filmmakers could do just as much as men and highlight our films in an amazing film festival / community outreach event..
